The Ridge - Teja By The Sea located at Batu Kawan, is a very nice place to enjoy food. We had our dinner there on last weekend with family. By the time we arrived there was already 7.30pm, too bad we missed the sunset view.
We ordered tomyam ayam with 2 bowl of rice, 2 lamb chops, 1 fish and chip and 1 roasted chicken. For drink, we have one big jar of fresh orange juice. Mee udang is recommended by waitress but it was closed after 7pm.
One big claypot of tomyam ayam, RM12. I like the sourness and little sweetness of the tomyam taste, not too spicy. I found the serving is quite proffesional, take note of how they served the white rice. This claypot tomyam is enough for 4-5 person according to waitress.

Lamb chop, taste good with "Aladdin" black pepper sauce, but small portion, RM18. You can choose medium or full cooked. I choose one medium cooked but it was actually cooked completely.

Roasted chicken, serve with Aladdin black pepper sauce too, it was delicious but portion is small too. RM13.

Fish and Chip (dory fish) was worth the money as they give you two pieces of fish, with lot of french fries. RM12.

Fresh orange juice, RM12.90 per jar. Oh no, I just checked my bill, it was RM12.90? I remembered menu written was RM8 per jar. Too late, cannot claim back the money. Rugi lah!!!!!

Total bill will include 10% service charge, but no gov tax.
It is a big compound with plenty of free carpark, nice sea view, good environment, romantic and windy dining place. I like this place and will return again for sunset view. They serve grill seafood set too, at about few tens ringgit to hundred plus ringgit depend on set.

The location is just next to jetty to Pulau Aman. You may call them directly to ask for exact location.

We had our lunch at cendol house on last weekend. Before that, we passed by this shop house but never give them a try. Since they claimed that "We served best cendol in town", so we give it a try.
This shop not only sell cendol, but also laksa, nasi lemak, nasi kunyit with curry chicken. Two of us ordered one each to try.
Cendol is ok but this small bowl cost RM2. Santan (coconut milk) taste is not very thick but when mix with brown/coconut sugar syrup, it tasted good. Ingredients in cendol include red bean and cendol.

Nasi lemak is RM1.40 per pack, very small pack but taste good too.

We can smell laksa fragrance from far before enter the shop. They sell it at RM3.50 per bowl, it tasted good too but you can hardly find fish meat from the soup.

Nasi kunyit comes with curry drumstick chicken and potato at price RM6. Very delious too.

Inside the shop, they have fan ventilation system which will blow and cool you even during hot weather day.
Overall, they serve all foods that we like, but they charged a little too high on food price.

Ki no me, a Japanese Restaurant located at The One, Bayan Lepas. Before went there, comments from others about this restaurant are positive. Good food with good price, but need to wait for nearly one hour before the food was serve.
When I blog for this restaurant, I google for Ki no me, and I found this: 木の芽, the young leaves of the sansho tree (Japanese pepper). I think the restaurant named after this leaf as I observed the wall is decorated with many greeny leaves. I believed they are ki no me.
Today, we decided to give it a try, we were lucky as we get a parking space right in front of the restaurant and not crowded at the time we arrived there.

We quickly glance through the menu and put order, one saba shioyaki and one yakiniku set lunch. Set lunch include salad, rice, miso soup and dessert (ice cream). Green tea and plain water are free of charge at this moment.
Saba shioyaki, "artfully grilled mackerel fillet with salt" at RM12 per set lunch. Saba tasted salty and fresh, generous in portion.

Yakiniku, "sauteed sliced beef with our flavorful garlic sauce" at RM15 per set lunch. It is a must to try too if you are a beef lover.

Total price will need to include additional of 10% service charge.
I am happy with my lunch today as it was really delicious and worth the money. Will return again to try Sanma shioyaki / salmon and more. My suggestion to them is "please maintain this price range and portion so that customers will return happily and continuously". As I observed from many restaurants, usually price will increase / portion will become smaller after their business become good.
At this moment, they serve lunch only. Dinner is still under planning and exact opening day is yet to be confirmed. Menu wise, they will serve different menu for dinner.
Address: 2-1-12 & 2-2-12, The One, Tingkat Mahsuri 5, 11950, Bayan Lepas, Penang. Tel: 604-6461336

If talk about my favourite Japanese food, ramen is one of them, especially tonkotsu ramen, tan tan ramen and many more. In Penang, there are not many restaurant selling this ramen, at least I can't recall any restaurant that selling it. If you know, I will be happy if you willing to share with me.
Xuan Feng restaurant was opened on last year end. I was so excited when my colleague informed me they serve tonkotsu ramen. I get to know this ramen during my stay in Japan, the soup was cooked with pork bone (of course with other ingredients too) for long hours, hence you will get a very thick and sweet soup base. On last year, colleagues celebrated my birthday at Xuan Feng. I was satisfied with their tonkotsu ramen.
Recently, groupon offers a promotion, with RM40 you will get 4 bowls of ramen (tonkotsu ramen or Hokkaido scallop ramen) OR rice (stamina don or terriyaki chicken rice), 2 side dishes and 4 cups of fresh orange. I feel it is worth so I bought it. With parents and Camus, I went for another time.

Groupon menu
We had 2 bowls of tonkotsu ramen and 2 bowls of Hokkaido scallop ramen. For side dishes, we get one sweet potato and one edamame.
Tonkotsu ramen was still tasty as the first time I ate it. With few slices of meat, black fungus, egg and other toppings.

Hokkaido scallop ramen gave another taste, soup base is towards fresh seafood taste, topped with 3 fresh scallop, meat slice, corn kernel, egg and others. Both were perfect!

Side dishes did not dissapoint us too, sweet potato was fried and coated with a kind of spices, sweet and spicy. Edamame is also my favourite, so I just like it!

Sweet potato

Edamame

Fresh orange juice
With this promotion, the restaurant was so crowded and those who came late will have to wait at outside. Compare with previous, usually the restaurant has many empty seat during dinner time. Hence, I hope they will continue to serve at cheaper price or maybe provide set lunch or set dinner at more affordable price.

After Green Island western food restaurant, there is another newly open western food restaurant in Bayan Lepas area. It was formerly known as Home's Cafe, and now change to Mikki G. We managed to visit this place on last Friday, second day of the opening. 10% discount on all foods and it is applicable until end of April 2013. Heard that the chef is from Legend hotel in KL.
The interior of the restaurant remained the same as previous and worker's uniform is still black in colour. Menu wise, they serve more on western food, including chicken chop, chicken cordon bleu, roast rosemary chicken, spegetti and etc. Lamb shrank is popular according to my colleague. Besides, the old menu "Local Delight" from Home's Cafe are still available.
Five of us visit there, thinking to try out their western food. After look through the menu, I changed my mind and chosen nasi lemak as the western food is not cheap. During my visit to Home's Cafe, I always look for nasi lemak with fried chicken. Hence I believed it will be the same. But compare to old price of around RM6.50, now it is RM7.50. I am not sure when they started increase the price as I have been long time never visit to Home's Cafe. For the rest of them, all ordered chicken cordon bleu since others are quite expensive.

Nasi lemak taste good, I like fried chicken drumstick and sambal ikan bilis.

Chicken cordon bleu gave us a big dissapoinment on the portion, I cannot accept these two small pieces of chicken cost RM12.50. Besides, the gravy just seems like not match with chicken cordon bleu.

The environment was very bad in the restaurant due to poor ventilation. It was very hot and food oily smell make us feel uncomfort.
Another big shock was on the bill. We suppose to have 10% discount on all meals, but...it was just 3.5%! Is the program mistake or...? We did not notice the mistake until we arrived at office.

As a conclusion, I feel disspointed with the environment, price range of the foods and mistake of calculation on discount rate. Of course, this is just my personal point of view. You may visit them and rate it by your own.

"We Share What We Have.....", this is a slogan of 181 Open House, a coffee house located at Juru, Penang. The coffee house open in July 2012 and operate by a Chinese couple of husband and wife. It was renovated from bungalo type double story old house at Juru Village, and "181" is plat number of their house.
Before that, we have passed by the coffee house for many times, but could not get a chance to dine in there. Last weekend, we managed to visit them and had our lunch there.

The coffee house is fully decorated by the owners, with mural painting, owner's photography, books for reading, chairs made by newspaper, coca-cola cans collection, coffee makers/cups collection and others. We believed most of the things are recycled, even coffee cups are all different in "design". They also made efford to plant some plantation outside the house, giving a more comfortable environment to their customers. Other than decorations, music also plays an important role in bringing out the relaxing environment.

For food, they have different menu for lunch daily. Besides, they also serve coffee and cakes too. Cheesecakes are homemade by the wife. Since it was lunch time, we ordered one Chicken Teriyaki and one Chinese Herbal Chicken Soup. Both are served with vegetable and egg. When the foods are served, the owner remind us that no MSG was added, so we can finish up the all the dishes including soup without worry.
The herbal soup cames with drumstick, we like it as it tasted like mother's home cook soup, healthy and delicious.

As for Chicken Teriyaki, it tasted not bad too but I would prefer chicken with bone. I believed for many people, eating chicken or fish without bone is easier but for me, chicken without bone is like missing something on it.

We truly feel the efford made by both the owners to bring out relax and comfortable environment to their customers. We as customer and food blogger, sincerely wish their coffee house business is booming. We do wish to return for their cheese cake and coffee in near future!
The coffee house is located inside Juru Village and not facing any main road, hence to locate it is not so easy for those who are not familiar with Juru area. Below is their address and contact number, we suggest you to give them a call first before proceed to this place. They open daily but on Sunday, they serve dessert and beverage only. You will find plenty of car park space in front of the coffee house too. For more info on their menu, please visit their blog.

Not long ago, there is one newly open western food restaurant open at The One, Bayan Lepas. Feedback from friends that they serve reasonable price range western food, just like James Foo. Although I am Penangite, but experience to dine in James Foo is only once. But that one time experience gave us a good impression on the food and price range. Due to far distance from home, we seldom have chance to visit there often. Hence this newly open restaurant is a good place for us to visit as it is nearer to our company and house. Wifi is available in the restaurant.

Our first visit was to celebrate birthday with colleague. They have chicken, fish, lamb, beef, combo, appetizer, soup and other to choose from.

I ate grilled chicken with BBQ sauce, it taste not bad but not what I was expected. The chicken was coated with flour and then grill, and it is boneless.

I prefer roasted chicken with BBQ sauce, the roasted chicken is roast without flour coated and serve with BBQ sauce, and it is chicken with bone.

Roasted chicken with BBQ sauce
Colleague ordered oriental chicken chop, chicken maryland and others. Feedback from them are good too.

Oriental chicken chop

Chicken maryland

Hawaian grilled chicken

Grilled salmon with teriyaki sauce

Spicy thai chicken chop

Grill chicken with mushroom sauce
Do not attempt to finish up your meal too fast, because you can make your own mini burger with your meal!

I make my mini burger, and I like the bread, it is soft sweet bun.

The food portion is not very big but with this price range I think it is still acceptable, but I saw the chicken maryland set is quite big. Some of them comment that James Foo is better.
For my next visit, I might want to try their combo set and roasted chicken.
