181 Open House | Juru Village 柔府新村, Penang
"We Share What We Have.....", this is a slogan of 181 Open House, a coffee house located at Juru, Penang. The coffee house open in July 2012 and operate by a Chinese couple of husband and wife. It was renovated from bungalo type double story old house at Juru Village, and "181" is plat number of their house. Before that, we have passed by the coffee house for many times, but could not get a chance to dine in there. Last weekend, we managed to visit them and had our lunch there. The coffee house is fully decorated by the owners, with mural painting, owner's photography, books for reading, chairs made by newspaper, coca-cola cans collection, coffee makers/cups collection and others. We believed most of the things are recycled, even coffee cups are all different in "design". They also made efford to plant some plantation outside the house, giving a more comfortable environment to their customers. Other than decorations, music also plays an important role in bringing out the relaxing environment. For food, they have different menu for lunch daily. Besides, they also serve coffee and cakes too. Cheesecakes are homemade by the wife. Since it was lunch time, we ordered one Chicken Teriyaki and one Chinese Herbal Chicken Soup. Both are served with vegetable and egg. When the foods are served, the owner remind us that no MSG was added, so we can finish up the all the dishes including soup without worry. The herbal soup cames with drumstick, we like it as it tasted like mother's home cook soup, healthy and delicious. As for Chicken Teriyaki, it tasted not bad too but I would prefer chicken with bone. I believed for many people, eating chicken or fish without bone is easier but for me, chicken without bone is like missing something on it. We truly feel the efford made by both the owners to bring out relax and comfortable environment to their customers. We as customer and food blogger, sincerely wish their coffee house business is booming. We do wish to return for their cheese cake and coffee in near future! The coffee house is located inside Juru Village and not facing any main road, hence to locate it is not so easy for those who are not familiar with Juru area. Apple & Cranberry Baked Cheesecake Recipe
It has been long time I never bake cheesecake again. Last Saturday, I grab one Anchor cream cheese from bakery ingredient shop and start to bake this Apple & Cranberry Baked Cheesecake. This is the first time I cook apple ingredient, as I do not really like apple. But after this, I will continue with apple stuff as it really taste delicious. The green apple is not sour at all after cook in sugar and lemon juice. I believe this is a good way to enjoy green apple if you do not like sour, as some people claimed that green apple helps in reducing colesterol. Well, no matter this is true or not, who cares? As I only care on the recipe, and you? This recipe is suit for those who are not very fancy about cheese but still want to eat cheese as the cheese taste is not very strong. The recipe can make two 6" cakes. Ingredients(A)170g digestive biscuit (crushed)80g melted butter (melted) (B)1tbsp butter1tbsp castor sugar2 green apple (cut into cube)2tsp lemon juice1tbsp corn flour60g water50g dried cranberry (C)250g cream cheese20g caster sugar2 egg york25g corn flour30g fresh cream (D)2 egg white40g caster sugar1/4tsp cream of tartar Method(A)1. Combine (A) and mix well. 2. Press firmly into base of a cake tin. 3. Refrigerate until firm. (B)1. Cook butter and castor sugar in a pan.2. Add green apple and lemon juice, cook until apple is lightly soft.3. Add corn flour in water. Pour into pan and cook until mixture become thick.4. Remove from heat and stir in dried cranberry. Set aside until cool.5. Preheat oven at 140C. (C)1. Beat cream cheese and sugar until sugar dissolve.2. Add corn flour and mix well.3. Add egg yolk one by one, mix well.4. Lastly, add fresh cream and mix well. (D)1. Beat egg whites until form bubble.2. Add cream of tartar, continue beating.3. Slowly add in sugar and beat until soft peak form.4. Add 1/3 of egg white into (C), mix well with spatula.5. Add in another 1/3 egg white and stir until just combine.6. Repeat step 5 with last 1/3 portion of egg white. Assemble cake1. Take out biscuit base from refrigerator.2. Spoon and arrange apple filling.3. Pour in cheese mixture.4. Place cake tin in hot water bath and bake for 35~40 minutes or until filling is set.5. With simple instruction shown behind the packing, what you need are 1kg of chicken (or beef or lamb), 200ml of water and 120ml of coconut milk. I cooked with 8 chicken wings and 3 potatos. Besides, I added 5 chopped shallots (small onion) for better taste. Firstly, pour in the instant curry paste and stir for few minutes, add in chicken wings, follow by potatos. Stir evenly for another few minutes, pour in water and let them boil. When the chickens are well cooked and potatos are soft, add in coconut milk. Stir evenly and you can have a pot of very delicious curry chicken in front of you.
I am very satisfied with the curry chicken as it tasted really good. The fragrant of spicy curry powder will surely open up your appetite! Yummy...yummy...yuuuu..mmy...
