Pokka Aromax Coffee | Japan

Recently, there are new types of coffee from Pokka Company in Japan. It is an aromax series coffee, four types of new aromax coffee namely "Black", "Ice Latte", "Espresso" and "Premium Gold". I have tried all of them and collected the cans of these 4 types coffee.Drinking cute mini can coffee in Japan is enjoyable but this is the first time I collected the cans. The reason is they are special in the sense that this is the first time I saw mini can with cover. Hence I collected 4 of them and wanted to bring them back to Malaysia as one of my collection.I bought all of them from company's vending machine, 90 yen each (about RM3.20). Normal price from outside vending machine is 120 yen each (about RM4.20).

Pepper Lunch | Japan

It is now a Hanami season in Japan (during March and April) and for many Japanese, this is the best time of year. The cherry blossom (sakura) trees all over Japan come in to bloom for about seven to ten days. This is also a great time for people to hold outdoor parties to view the sakura. The name “Hanami” says it all, hana means “flower” and mi is “to look”.

1 Year Old Lychee Cheese Cake | Happy Birthday to My Nephew

This is the first birthday cake for him in his life. Bake by me!!! So proud of me... A simple Lychee Cheese Cake with my own creation and with symbol "1" representing his age.     This time I choose to use Australia brand cream cheese, it is cheaper (half the price) compare to Philadelphia brand cream cheese. Conclusion, I will use back Philadelphia for the next cheese cake as I prefer heavier taste cheese. Australia brand cream cheese Fresh cream that I used for this cake, taste not so sweet, quite nice. "Value Pride......" Value Pride fresh cream Next, let's see how I assembled the "1" year old cake. Firstly, bake a square shape sponge cake. (recipe refer here). To make the number "1" shape, cut the square cake and arrange according to the diagram shows below. Cut horizontally into half to spread cream cheese and lychee. Arrange and decorate accordingly. Cut the cake horizontal into half Spread cream cheese mixture and lychee Completed "1 year old" cake A "box" created by Camus, I found that it is a very good idea to make the box using alluminium foil and keep the cake fresh. Cake can be baked in several ways, by using an oven which is the most common way. I knew that cake can be steamed with gas as well. But have you ever tried to bake a cake with rice cooker? Basically I do not hear people in our country bake with rice cooker, and I was surprised to see a book that introduces how to bake a cake with rice cooker. Without further consideration, I bought the book.

Below are the ingredients needed.

250g    cream cheese (room temperature)

80g      caster sugar

3          eggs

1tbsp   plain flour

200ml  fresh cream

1tbsp   lemon juice

Method:

1. Mix cream cheese and caster sugar in a bowl. Beat until smooth and creamy.

The ingredients used and method of preparation are actually similar to the one we bake with oven, which is the normal way. But I would like to comment on the outcome I obtained this round. Basically everything is fine but texture of the cake is not as perfect as what I expected. It was a bit hard on the side of the cake. I believed it was caused by the time taken to bake the cake. I baked for more than 30 minutes, which I think it was too long. I should try to bake in shorter time next round, and wish that I will be able to get the result that I want.

*I used Japan's rice cooker to bake the cake, their design of rice cooker is different to Malaysia's, I think. Hence I am not sure whether Malaysia's rice cooker is suitable to use to bake for a cake or not.

As I don't have my oven with me in Japan, hence I am looking for alternate way to bake. I believed the rice cooker at my apartment can served me well also, hope it won't disappoint me. Hehe... I miss my smart oven in Penang!

  • Susan  - Cake Setting

I noticed your particular cooker doesn't have a ケーキ setting, which could possible be the reason your cake didn't turn out as expected.

What was the book you took the recipe from? I am always interested in trying new recipes in my cooker. What a genius piece of equipment. :P

I look forward to your reply.

Hi Susan, thanks for your comment. The book title is 炊飯器でお菓子。Do we need the ケーキ setting to bake the cake? May I know where are you from? Nice to meet you here...and hope to hear from you again. :)

  • Susan  - Hi

Thank you for the title of the book, unfortunately I can't read Kanji very well or speak Japanese very well either, so can't use the book you used. Do you know if there is an English version?
I'm from Scotland, but have lived in Japan for around 18months. I love it here, but like you I miss my oven aswell. I am always trying new things in my rice cooker as this is the only good item in my very small kitchen.
The 'Cake' setting bakes cakes and bread beautifuly for me. However in my old rice cooker the normal setting pretty much burned everything at the bottom and sides leaving it hard around the edges :pinch:
I am going to atempt to make this cake tonight for my friends birthday tomorrow. I really hope it works. :silly: :cheer:

    Hi Susan,

I am not sure whether they have English version or not, as I myself also find it is difficult to get English recipe book in Japan. What you can do is to find the recipe from internet.

Please share with me after you have successfully bake your cheese cake with your rice cooker.

Oh ya, another alternative way to make a cake, you can buy the premix cheese cake powder from hyper market, you just need to mix it with milk, the packing comes with biscuit base as well as cheese powder filling, after mix with milk, it is exactly the same as chilled cheese cake. Anyhow, I prefer the cheesecake make with pure cream cheese, as the taste will be stronger. But it is very useful if you would like to make a cake for friend's birthday. Easy and 100% guarantee successful.
