Christmas Dinner Semi Buffet | The View Hotel Equatorial Penang

Merry Christmas 2015! We had four days holiday on this year Christmas, a super happy holiday mood to welcome this year Christmas. We celebrated our Christmas at The View Restaurant, with their semi-buffet menu that can opt for either Turkey or Lamb for the main course. We get one Lamb and the other was rib eye steak that not in the menu. Before the soup was served, we started with the buffet. Not much choices but some of them taste really good. They have salad, fingers food, fruits, and more. Desserts were one of my main focus, their tiramisu is one of the best that I had ever ate. Desserts and fruits: Parsnip cream soup The main course tasted delicious especially the lamb, very soft and juicy. Lamb Rib eye steak Menu The semi buffet was RM158 per person, parking fees of RM6 can be claimed back from the total bill. Remember to keep your parking receipt.   Location: Hotel Equatorial Penang, 1 Jalan Bukit Jambul, Bayan Lepas 11900 Penang, MalaysiaContact number: +60 4 632 7000Link: https://penang.equatorial.com/dining/the-view/Operation hours: Lunch 12pm~2.30pm, Dinner 6.30pm~10pm

Butter Cake Recipe (Egg Separation Method)

Butter cake is one of my family favourite cake, I used to bake it years ago with "Buttercup" or "Farmcow" butter. This few years, I found it hard to bake nice butter cake with this types of butter. I am not sure what's wrong with it, it was either my baking skill get worse? or the weather that makes the buttle melt easily? or the butter itself? I bought a 500g better quality butter to keep in fridge and plan to bake for butter cake. This time I get "SCS" butter. When I read through some bloggers' blog, I found one recipe that is famous among many bloggers, and this method using egg separation method. I decided to give it a try. With no regret, I am very happy with the result, I like this type of cake which gives a very fluffy texture and rich in buttery flavour. Thanks to wendyinkk for sharing Mrs NgSK's recipe. I really love it so much!!! Ingredients:230g salted butter, softened150g caster sugar4 egg yolks (grade B egg)200g self raising flour, sifted (I used 200g cake flour+3.5tsp baking powder)60ml fresh milk 4 egg whites (grade B egg)50g caster sugar Method:1. Preheat oven to 170°C. Line bottom and sides of 8 inch cake pan with parchment paper. 2. Cream butter and sugar till pale and fluffy, scrape side and bottom of mixing bowl as necessary. Add egg yolk 1 at a time. Beat well after each addition. 3. Put half the sifted flour and mix on low speed until combined. Add milk in two additions and mix until well combined. Add in balance of flour. 4. In a separate mixing bowl, whisk egg whites till soft peak. Gradually add in 50 g sugar, beat until egg whites form stiff peaks. 5. Put half the egg whites in butter mixture and mix on low speed, pour in balance of egg whites and fold with spatula. 6. Pour batter into baking pan and level.7. Bang baking pan on table top to remove big air bubbles.8. Bake at pre-heated oven for 45 minutes or until skewer inserted and come out clean. My cake has little crack on top when bake in oven for about 40 minutes, I don't really care about this as most importantly it was very delicious, look at the photo to see the cake's texture, lovely! Left: before baked, right: after baked

Bread Maker Butter Cake

Have you ever try to bake cake with bread maker? I still remember, one of the attractive point of this new bread maker is the "bake cake" function. I wonder how will the cake taste with this super lazy method. No baking tool (except weight machine) is needed. What you need to do is to dump everything into the machine and press few buttons. That's all!

Dinner at いろはかるた Izakaya 居酒屋| Kyoto Japan

Izakaya居酒屋is a place where Japanese gather together for eating, drinking, smoking and talking. To be more precise, it is a place for them to drink, drink, drink and drink non-stop. Since it is a place for drinking, many Izakaya provide drinking buffer (飲み放題 "nomihoudai") package. If you are to order a set package, many of them come with appetizer, main dishes, salad, dessert and some side dishes. The drinks are buffet type and you can choose from soft drink, wine, cocktail, sake and others. Most of them are alcohol. I have visited to many of the Izakaya during the stay in Japan. Most of the times were attended farewell or welcoming party with Japanese colleague. I have no chance to take good photo during dining with them.

1337927239854I wanted to buy a professional mixer since years ago and finally my dream has come true. I received this great birthday gift from my dear Camus. It is Kenwood mixer. Thanks dear...

For the past 10 years, a small modal of Philips mixer has accompany me in my baking life. It served me well too but the size is small (can't beat much dough at a time) and it can't beat bread dough. The motor will get hot and if continue beating might break down the motor. I have no excuse to say "small mixer can't beat bread, so I want to buy bigger mixer" since I have a bread maker with me.

So, why should I get this new mixer? ...because it makes me look more professional, and most importantly, it is a free gift from my dear!

Ok, finish show off (**happy-ing**).

I should make good use of this new mixer start on my next bake. I have beaten with some recipes but it doesn't go very well as I am not familiar with the speed yet. Too fast or too slow will affect my end product. For example, it will easily over beat egg white if speed is not handle well. Hence, more understanding and attention is needed on my new life partner. I wish it will work with me happily through out my baking life.
